Healdsburg has a rich and colorful history that has developed with and because of its unique and ideal geographic setting. We are built upon a rich top soil delivered by the Russian River that flows from the forests of Mendocino County, through the shadow of Fitch Mountain on out to the Pacific Ocean. Healdsburg sits on the banks of the Russian River where Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and the Russian River Valley all meet, forming a near perfect region to host some of the finest vineyards found across the globe.
Healdsburg has quietly developed over the years from a regional agricultural-based breadbasket to a tourist destination of international preeminence! Our ideal climate, spectacular scenery, acclaimed wineries, exquisite restaurants of every genre, and lodging facilities that span from hometown to the absolutely finest imaginable, has made Healdsburg a world-recognized playground.
And yet, Healdsburg is still “our town”, a place where locals can congregate for music in the plaza on those warm summer evenings or meander through the farmers market on a Saturday morning feasting on a wide variety of locally produced fruits and vegetables.
As you meander through this guide book, you will see that Healdsburg is much more than a tourist destination. We support a vibrant local economy with a diversified mix of entrepreneurs and service providers. Theater and the arts are a tremendous component of our lives and strongly supported by the residents. Recreation opportunities abound as well, from boating on the Russian River and Lake Sonoma, to biking, hiking, golfing, and enjoying the local parks and open space.
