Indian Wells Community Introduction

From its humble start as a dusty stagecoach stop for thirsty travelers, the city of Indian Wells has blossomed like a stunning desert flower.

Nestled in the breathtaking beauty of the foothills of the majestic Santa Rosa Mountains, Indian Wells is celebrated as one of the most affluent destination communities in California if not in the United States. For example, the city is acclaimed as the No. 1 community in Riverside County for income/capital and bank deposits per capita.

Recognized as a high-end residential community, Indian Wells also is known as the ultimate vacation oasis. The heart of the city boasts four luxury resorts: the Renaissance Esmeralda, Hyatt Grand Champions Resort and Spa, the Miramonte Resort and Spa and the Indian Wells Resort Hotel, collectively having 1,416 luxuriously appointed rooms plus 40 outdoor meeting venues, 36 holes of championship golf, 29 tennis courts, 11 sparkling pools and three luxurious spas.

Besides golf, Indian Wells is also known for the internationally televised Pacific Life Open Tennis Masters Tournament at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the second largest tennis facility in the nation. Every March, tennis fans from around the world flock to see the greatest tennis stars such as Roger Federer and Lindsey Davenport.

The stars will be out February 2008 for the 20th Anniversary edition of the Frank Sinatra Countrywide Celebrity Invitational at the historic Indian Wells Country Club and the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa. Touted as one of most successful celebrity golf tournaments in the country, participants will delight in two days of golf and three evenings of entertainment.

The town also has heart: Each year, hundreds of residents take part in efforts to help the not-so-advantaged, whether it is feeding the hungry or cleaning up the environment or donating funds to charitable causes. The city is also a staunch supporter of the arts, from helping to celebrate local film festivals to sponsoring exhibitions at local art museums.

The Clive Clark-designed Celebrity Course opened for public play on November 1, 2006. The par-72, 18-hole, championship golf course is the first of two new golf courses to be built at the Indian Wells Golf Resort. The new Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort offers the winning combination of aesthetic beauty and strategic intrigue. This Clive Clark-design insures challenge and reward for players of all skill levels. The Celebrity Course was proud to be the host of the 2007 LG Skins Game and four of the world’s best players.

From a residential perspective, the city of Indian Wells provides a range of amenities and services for its 4,900 full-time residents as well as 6,000 additional residents who call Indian Wells home during winter months. The award-winning restaurants in the hotels, a friendly business community of shopping centers, myriad financial services, stores, shops and services, supported by the Indian Wells Chamber of Commerce, make Indian Wells a place to call home.

There are also the many events and attractions that add to the experience of living or visiting Indian Wells: The Eisenhower Walk of Honor and Veterans Memorial, the Desert Town Hall of Indian Wells speaker series and The Indian Wells Arts Festival, are just a few.

And then there are the amenities provided by Mother Nature: An average annual temperature of 74 degrees, and average of 350 days of sunshine each year and spectacular 360-degree mountain views, just a few of the abundances that truly make Indian Wells a desert oasis.
