Indian Wells Location and Transportation

Both Los Angeles and San Diego are approximately 120 miles from Indian Wells, while Santa Barbara is located about 220 miles from the city. Phoenix is approximately 250 miles from Indian Wells and Las Vegas is 300 miles away.

There are a number of airports serving Indian Wells. Palm Springs International Airport is 30 minutes away, while Ontario Airport and John Wayne Airport are 90 minutes away. Meanwhile, Los Angeles International Airport, Burbank Airport and San Diego Airport are two hours from Indian Wells.

Rail Service for the Coachella Valley is provided by the Union Pacific Railroad.

Amtrak’s Sunset Limited carries passengers between Los Angeles, San Antonio and Orlando, Florida, with a station stop in North Palm Springs at Indian Avenue and Palm Springs Station Road.

Amtrak also provides a daily round trip on its California Motor Coach service operating to and from the San Joaquin trains in Bakersfield. Bus stops include Palm Desert and Palm Springs, Beaumont, and San Bernardino.

Coachella Valley public transportation is provided by Sunline Transit Agency, which offers daily (except the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays) ridership on nearly 50 buses and vans from Desert Hot Springs to Oasis. The services shuttle more than four million riders each year. Private bus service, shuttle and taxi service is also available throughout the Coachella Valley.

The area is also serviced by several major highways, such as Interstate 10, the major arterial to Los Angeles, and freeway systems throughout California; Highway 62, which connects from Interstate 10 north to the high desert and Joshua Tree; Highway 111, the main north/south state expressway and retail corridor through the Coachella Valley (it connects with Interstate 10 on the north and Highway 86 on the south); and Highway 86, which connects to Interstate 10 and extends south through lower Coachella Valley and ends in Calexico at the Mexican border.
