Education is a cornerstone in the Irwindale community. Residents have access to public schools, private schools and a number of colleges and universities closely surrounding the city.
Four exceptional public school districts serve K-12 students in the Irwindale area: Covina Valley Unified, Azusa Unified, Duarte Unified and Baldwin Park Unified. Each district is dedicated to each student’s academic success and provides strong basic education complemented by a range of enrichment classes and specialized courses – all in a 21st century learning environment. The Irwindale community is also served by a number of preschools and early childhood development centers, as well as several private and parochial institutions.
As for higher learning, Irwindale’s centralized location in Los Angeles County places it within reach of numerous colleges and universities that supply outstanding educational opportunities to graduating high school seniors, adults and businesses. The Irwindale Educational Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization originating in 1987 is dedicated to the betterment of the citizenry of Irwindale and its youth. This program benefits not only the residential community of Irwindale but also the businesses that are located in Irwindale and who are members in good standing with the Chamber. Those eligible to apply are residents, Irwindale business owners and their employees and family members.
The Annual IEF BBQ held at MillerCoors is the primary fundraiser for the scholarship fund. Scholarships are awarded in August of each year and range from $500-$2,000 per qualified applicant. We encourage businesses to support education for our local workforce by contributing to this foundation. Monetary gifts may be sent in care of the Chamber. There are also occupational and technical training resources in and around the area, including the East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program &Technical Center and Premiere Career College, which is based in Irwindale and offers a range of training programs in the areas of nursing, medical and business.
The library provides programs that inspire lifelong learning through reading, tutoring and early literacy development. Our popular weekly storytime programs introduce toddlers and preschoolers to stories, songs, books and interactive crafts that build pre-literacy skills. Our after-school Learning Center is staffed by credentialed teachers four days a week who assist children in understanding and completing homework assignments. Education continues for a lifetime at the library through our Summer Reading Programs for children and adults as well as book clubs, outreach and craft activities for all ages. The library is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Please stop by for a current calendar of our programs!
From preschool through graduate studies, Irwindale area residents are supplied with outstanding education at all levels.
