Getting Around Lakewood
When it comes to traveling or commuting, Lakewood residents enjoy one thing foremost: convenience.
Lakewood is 23 miles south of the City of Los Angeles, adjacent to the Long Beach metropolitan area on the south and west. Lakewood is within easy access of all commercial and public transportation systems. Interstates 405, 710, 91, and 605 provide easy auto and truck access.
DASH (Dependable, Accessible, Senior and Handicap) Transit is the city's transportation service for Lakewood residents who are over the age of 60 years or handicapped. This service operates on a reservation basis. DASH operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
Seniors and handicapped in the Long Beach region can take advantage of Dial-A-Lift, while commuter bus service is available from Long Beach Transit, Los Angeles County Metro, and Orange County Transit with many lines on major Lakewood streets. For Dial-A-Lift information, call 591-8753.
For those whose traveling needs cover more territory, Los Angeles International Airport, Long Beach Airport, and John Wayne Airport are a relatively short drive away.
