Located in the heart of the city, the newly remodeled and expanded Lakewood Center offers more than 250 stores where you'll find fashion to fit every style and budget. Lakewood Center now includes an all-new Macy's department store, a new Mervyn's store, and the Terrace Cafe's food court for dining while you shop, and an entirely new wing of specialty stores and services. Retail growth like this has a real return for Lakewood potentially as much as $750,000 more in sales tax revenue annually to help cover the costs of law enforcement, street and facility improvements, and recreation programs. Even more shopping expansion is in the works, say city planners. The new Target store at Lakewood Center will open in 2003. The 168,000-square-foot, two-story store will be accompanied along Candlewood Street by two new restaurants. A new Kohl's department store opened on Carson Street at Paramount Boulevard. The 86,000 square-foot, single-story department store is part of a major expansion into southern California of the Wisconsin-based retailer.
