The Long Beach Unified School District serves more than 7,500 Lakewood students, whose families can choose from a comprehensive range of high quality, innovative educational programs offered at award-winning schools.

In the Lakewood area, LBUSD offers excellent education to students at eight elementary schools, two middle schools and Lakewood High School. Honors bestowed upon Lakewood area schools include the coveted California Distinguished Schools Award, given by the State Department of Education, and the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award. To earn these high honors, schools must show exemplary strength in parent involvement, academic achievement and programs for children with special needs. A proud tradition of outstanding achievement continues at Lakewood High School, where more students than any other high school in Los Angeles County earned the first Golden State Seal Merit Diplomas.

The Bellflower Unified School District serves 15,000 students in an eight square mile area in southeast Los Angeles County. It includes most of Bellflower, a large portion of Lakewood and a small portion of Cerritos. Its mission is to build strong futures for students. Eight of the 11 elementary schools are California Distinguished Schools and one is a National Blue Ribbon School. One of the two secondary schools (which include middle school and high school programs) is a California Distinguished School, and the continuation high school is a California Model Continuation High School. The district also includes an alternative education center, a child development program for pre-school aged children, and a large adult school program.

In addition to a curriculum that is strong in scope and sequence with quality instructional materials, Bellflower USD offers programs, services and facilities which support classroom learning. They include computer labs, libraries, guidance programs, career academies, vocational training, health offices, cafeterias serving hot meals, and tutoring programs.

Private schools, such as St. Joseph High School, also provide Lakewood residents with first-rate educational programs and amenities.
