About La Quinta
Incorporated in 1982, the City of La Quinta is currently one of California’s fastest growing cities. In 1982, the local population was just over 5,000. Today, the population of La Quinta exceeds 30,000 and there is no end in sight to the growth.
Wide-open spaces and undeveloped land encourage developers to build in the area while also allowing the city the opportunity to plan its growth. Recognized for world-class golf, a vibrant arts community, excellent quality of life and a strong consumer base, La Quinta is truly a paradise located at the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains in the heart of the Coachella Valley.
La Quinta has earned its nickname as the “Gem of the Desert.” Its prime location, community events, fantastic restaurants, and excellent arts and culture have contributed to the city’s reputation. Area businesses benefit from strong economic development and planned growth.
All the while, residents of La Quinta continue to maintain a small-town atmosphere with small-town values. Indeed, this attitude of creating a small-town feel to the city is truly at the heart of its success!
Retail Mix
Major retailers can be found throughout La Quinta. California’s first Wal-Mart Supercenter, Kohl’s, Target, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Staples, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Stein Mart and Office Depot are amongst the national retailers in the area. Smaller boutique shops and specialty stores can be found in the Village area with several shopping centers located throughout the city.
Restaurants
From upscale, fine dining establishments (both nationally known and locally owned) to ethnic fare and family eateries; from casual dining to fast food — La Quinta has a great mix. But there is always room for more!
Tourism/Hospitality
Renowned for the famous La Quinta Hotel, currently known as the La Quinta Resort and Club, the city will soon be home to an Embassy Suites and a Homewood Suites. Additionally, an exclusive boutique hotel and a four- to five-star hotel located at the SilverRock Resort are in the works and will soon add to the available lodging options for visitors.
