La Quinta Quality of Life

Nestled amid the foothills of the scenic Santa Rosa Mountains, in the heart of the Coachella Valley, La Quinta is known as “The Gem of the Desert,” an appropriate moniker given its natural beauty and precious, perfect and rare qualities. A place where gentle breezes carry the fragrances of the desert and spectacular sunsets and sunrises play a daily role in the city’s landscape.

La Quinta is home to a strong consumer base, a thriving arts community and a multitude of world-class championship golf courses. Internationally recognized as one of the world’s most magnificent resort communities, La Quinta has been the site of numerous national and professional sporting events.

An abundance of recreational activities, a solid educational system and a wide range of housing options are attracting a growing number of residents to this peaceful and relaxing oasis, from young families to retirees.

La Quinta is the Coachella Valley’s youngest city, a distinctive community whose dynamic quality of life continues to keep pace with its unprecedented growth and commercial development. Incorporated in 1982, La Quinta had a population of just over 5,200. Today, the population has grown into a bedroom community of approximately 41,090. That number swells to over 57,100 during the winter months when residents with second homes return to this popular resort destination. The Coachella Valley is home to some 408,600 permanent residents.

UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH

La Quinta businesses benefit from being part of one of California’s fastest growing cities, a recent honor bestowed on La Quinta. The vast majority of its open area is attractive for development with the opportunity for planned growth. Housing and hotel development in La Quinta and the surrounding area are supporting the city’s growth as well.

In response to the abundance of positive growth, La Quintans proudly boast of their city’s ability to maintain its small town values and atmosphere. The beautiful near-perfect desert climate offers a year-round respite to visitors from around the world. With dry air and low humidity there is fun in the sun by daylight hours and balmy desert weather to enjoy during an evening stroll. From fall through late spring, days are warm and nights are cool. Summer days are hotter, but clean, dry air makes the higher temperatures feel comfortable. The La Quinta area has an average of 350 sunny days per year (average rainfall is 3.38 inches), while the mean temperature is 73 degrees (the hottest months are July and August).

And there’s no need to fuss over what kind of clothing to wear: dress in California casual, from cutoffs and sandals to designer sportswear by day and night. Some restaurants require jackets for men so it’s always wise to check when making a reservation. A cover-up and tanning lotion with a good SPF are essential for lounging by the pool, while a light wrap is recommended in evenings.

PUBLIC LIBRARY

The La Quinta Library is one of nine branches of the Riverside County Library System and provides online access to over 1.5 million volumes in the countywide system.
