La Quinta Education

clock

The communities of La Quinta, Indian Wells, Indio, Palm Desert and Bermuda Dunes are served by the Desert Sands Unified School District. With an enrollment of almost 25,000 students, DSUSD keeps pace with the growing student population (increasing nearly 3.5 percent annually) through expansion of existing schools, as well as construction of state-of-the-art campuses.

Opened in September 2001, the Amelia Earhart Elementary School of International Studies and the John Glenn Middle School of International Studies completed a triad with La Quinta High School. With an emphasis on inquiry-based learning and global perspective, LQHS is widely-respected for its International Baccalaureate and technology programs, as well as its school-to-career/college academics. Additionally, in 1998-99 it was recognized as a California Distinguished School, and in 2002 the graduating class included a National Merit Scholar.

Also serving parts of La Quinta, the Coachella Valley Unified School District has the area’s first state-of-the-art K-12 Education Park, completed in fall 2004. Among the district’s innovative programs are the after-school 21st Century Community Learning centers, the Coachella Valley Education Foundation’s “Catch the Dream” and CBET evening parent classes. Equally noteworthy: La Quinta is proud to be home to 2002-03 National Teacher of the Year Chauncy Veatch.
