Livermore residents of all ages benefit from the many parks, unique facilities and programs provided by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District. LARPD operates and maintains 38 neighborhood parks (ranging from two to 12 acres), two community parks with amenities (such as an equestrian center and rodeo grounds), sand based all-weather soccer fields, soccer and ball fields, four regional parks (totaling 1,305 acres), and 10 special-use parks. The agency also operates many miles of off-road and multi-use trails through scenic sites, and is building three new neighborhood parks.
The park district provides preschool programs and school-aged child care, as well as teen programs, classes for a wide variety of hobbies and activities, youth and adult sports, aquatics, environmental education, special events, and senior services.
LARPD has completed the Robert Livermore Community Center on East Avenue. The 71,000 square foot facility includes a teen center, a senior center, numerous meeting and activity rooms (including a party room), a full-size double gymnasium, a 400-plus seat ballroom/banquet hall and two outdoor pools.
