Childcare

California ranks in the top 10 nationwide for childcare, and Livermore boasts some of the state’s most comprehensive childcare services. Most notable is the availability for elementary and middle school-age children to participate in before- and after-school programs year-round at all of the elementary schools and middle schools in Livermore.
The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District’s Extended Student Services and TNRG/PAL programs provide quality before- and after-school care for children in grades K-8 at each of Livermore’s 10 elementary and four middle schools. The programs at the elementary schools are licensed, and have funding from the State Department of Education to provide subsidy funding for low-income families. Call the office at 925-960-2480 for more information. Subsidy is also available for the PAL program, and staff can be reached at 925-373-5728.
Las Positas College
Las Positas College, located in the hills north of Livermore, was founded over 30 years ago. It became a fully accredited, stand-alone community college in 1991. The college’s greatest strength is the emphasis that its staff and faculty put on dealing personally with each of its nearly 9,000 students. Las Positas ranks among the top two-year colleges in the state of California for transfer to four-year institutions and its career/technical programs are among the best in the nation.

Within the next seven years it is estimated that Las Positas College will serve more than 12,000 students. It is currently well underway with an aggressive facilities expansion that was made possible by a quarter of a billion dollar tax-payer-approved bond in 2004. The expansion includes an advanced center for the arts, increased classroom, lecture hall and science facilities, as well as a consolidated student service building, a two-pool aquatics center and demonstration vineyard for its robust Viticulture and Winery Technology Program. All of the new projects reflect a commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge green technology.
The entire Las Positas College campus community is committed to maintaining its legendary friendly, personal atmosphere as the institution grows. The nearly 500 full- and part-time faculty and staff are distinguished by their energy, creativity and commitment to making an astonishing difference in the lives of the student they serve. They are firmly committed to living the college motto: Students First!
