The Long Beach Unified School District is dedicated to improving standards, providing superior education and motivating its students to succeed and reach their potential. The more than 90 schools of the district have all proven themselves to be a cut above the rest, recognized for their efforts with innumerable honors and awards.

The Long Beach Unified School District serves the cities of Long Beach, Avalon, Lakewood and Signal Hill. The enrollment reaches approximately 90,000 students. The expansive size of the district requires a large staff of about 8,000 employees, making it a major employer in Long Beach.

The District was awarded one of the highest honors a school can receive. In 2003-04, it was the winner of the Broad Prize for Urban Education and has been a finalist every year it has been eligible since then. This is a groundbreaking feat as no other school has ever achieved this kind of rank.
