Oxnard is located 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 35 miles south of Santa Barbara on U.S. 101, a major north/south transportation corridor.

Major state highways providing access to Oxnard include Highway 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway) and Highway 126, which offers a connection with Interstate 5 (the Golden State Freeway) 27 miles east. More than 50 scheduled truck lines, contract carriers and air cargo haulers serve Oxnard.

Waterborne commerce is provided at the Port of Hueneme adjacent to the City of Oxnard. The Port of Hueneme is the only deepwater harbor between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The port, governed by the Oxnard Harbor District, is designated a U.S. Port of Entry. Grant funding from the Department of Homeland Security helped enhance security at the port.

AIR

Air service is provided by SkyWest Airlines (operating as United Express), which operates flights between the 216-acre Oxnard Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. Oxnard Airport has a contract air traffic control tower handling approximately 100,000 arrivals and/or departures a year and is home to more than 180 individual aircraft and, as of February 2007, obtained two fixed base operators and two flight schools.

The airport has a fully instrumented Category III instrument landing system and a 5,950-foot runway capable of handling cabin class, twin-engine aircraft as well as large business jets. The facilities include an east-west runway, 56,100 square feet of hanger space with a 100-aircraft storage capacity, a tie-down area for 140 aircraft, and a 10,000-square-foot passenger terminal.

Charter services are provided by Aspen Helicopters. The airport also hosts several car rental agencies and shuttle van service to Los Angeles International Airport.

RAIL SERVICE

The Oxnard Transportation Center is a spacious and modern rail station providing connections to local and distant transit services. Amtrak and Metrolink provide passenger and commuter rail services.

Amtrak operates passenger trains daily through the county and has its major hub at the Oxnard Transportation Center. Metrolink is Southern California’s commuter train network, which connects commuters in five counties with employment centers throughout the region. Southern Pacific Railroad and Ventura County Railroad provide freight services.

MASS TRANSIT

South Coast Area Transit (SCAT) provides transit service within Oxnard and in surrounding communities including specialized programs for senior citizens, students and people with disabilities. Dial-A-Ride provides shuttle services for areas not covered by SCAT. Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority (VISTA) provides bus service along seven regular routes, including highways 101 and 126. VISTA serves most of east and west county cities, Santa Barbara, California State University Channel Islands, and has a connection at Woodland Hills-Warner Center.
