Opportunities for recreational activities, both active and passive, are endless in the Palmdale community. The city currently encompasses more than 200 acres of developed parkland featuring playgrounds, sports fields and courts, four swimming pools, two skate parks and a number of special-use facilities. Palmdale is also equipped with around 11 miles of hiking and biking trails.
In the last few years, a great deal of money has been invested to develop the area’s current recreational sites, with $42 million going towards new parks, swimming pools, a water park and additional facilities.
One of the city’s most recent developments, DryTown Water Park, has become a favorite amongst residents looking to cool off in the water or soak up the sun. Main features of the modern water park include a 925-foot lazy river, three water slides at Rattler’s Revenge and The Wildcatter, a 6,000-square foot water playground for children, a video arcade and picnic facilities and open areas perfect for an outdoor lunch.
Additionally, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department affords active residents of all ages a multitude of engaging programs including aquatics, day camps, visual and performing arts, fitness and sports, among other activities. The city also runs the Palmdale Senior Center, offering residents aged 55 and over an abundance of diversions Monday through Friday. Ground was broken in spring of 2008 for a brand-new senior center to be built by City Hall.
Golfers enjoy hitting the greens at Palmdale’s two scenic public golf courses. The nine-hole Desert Aire Golf Course spans more than 3,062 yards while Rancho Vista Golf Course’s 18 holes stretch to 6,632 yards from the longest tee. Superlative amenities and beautiful facilities make these courses some of the choicest in the Antelope Valley.

While in the area, take a ride just outside of Palmdale to the Littlerock Recreation Area and take part in such activities as boating, fishing, swimming and off-roading. Near Littlerock is Devil’s Punchbowl, a county park located within the Angeles National Forest. Hike around the area while taking in its unique, breathtaking scenery. Additionally, a quick 20-minute drive will bring visitors to the gorgeous Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park in Agua Dulce. This 745-acre park, surrounded by a stunning backdrop, is ideal for hiking, horseback riding, camping and a variety of additional activities and has been the site for numerous movies.
