Though the aerospace industry is certainly a prominent force in the Antelope Valley’s economy, the area is home to, and is continually appealing to, a diverse assortment of businesses both large and small. Palmdale is the proud home of 4,500-6,000 companies of all sizes and types, from retail and commercial ventures to industrial establishments.

Businesses take pleasure in Palmdale’s economically-friendly attitude; its ideal location near plenty of interstates, the Los Angeles and Long Beach shipping ports, Los Angeles International Airport and LA/Palmdale regional airport; its scope of incentives for relocation and expansion; the support from several local organizations and institutions; and the availability of a dedicated, highly-skilled workforce.

ANTELOPE VALLEY ENTERPRISE ZONE (AVEZ) Stretching more than 61 square miles (an area that was expanded by 85 acres in 2002) in Palmdale, Lancaster and unincorporated sections of the county, the Antelope Valley Enterprise Zone is a state-designated area offering beneficial tax incentives for those businesses situated within its boundaries. No matter the size or type, businesses of all kinds can take advantage of these incentives, which include Hiring Tax Credit, Sales and Use Tax Credit, Business Expense Deduction, Net Operating Loss Carryover and Interest Deduction for Lenders.

FOREIGN-TRADE ZONE (FTZ) More than 1,300 acres have been designated as a Foreign-Trade Zone in the area, a classification that offers international traders ample opportunities for successful, cost-saving business ventures.

BUSINESS & INDUSTRIAL PARKS/CENTERS Challenger Business Park. One of the area’s newest business parks, the 10-acre Challenger Business Park is available for medical/retail and professional office space. Its locale within the AVEZ puts it near freeway access and the new Palmdale Regional Medical Center, which is currently under construction. Suites ranging from 1,200 up to 49,000 square feet can be found here.

Fairway Business Park. The 115-acre Fairway Business Park in Palmdale, zoned for everything between “super light” and “heavy industrial,” is regarded as the Antelope Valley’s leading business park. While the park’s excellent location puts it near State Highway 14, Antelope Valley Mall and a variety of other commercial and retail businesses, it is also within the boundaries of the AVEZ and the Palmdale FTZ. Fairway Business Park is currently home to Delta Scientific Corporation; U.S. Pole Company; FedEx Ground Distribution Center; Premier Mercantile; Energized Distribution; Davis Wholesale Electric, Inc. and others.

Freeway Business Center. Home to an assortment of professional and medical office buildings, plus manufacturing facilities, the 30-acre Freeway Business Center offers tenants the benefits of being located within the AVEZ and the Palmdale FTZ.

Park One Industrial Center. Ideal for light industrial, warehouse, distribution and research and development firms, the 10-acre Park One Industrial Center can be found at Rancho Vista Boulevard and Sierra Highway within the AVEZ and Palmdale FTZ. Major highways, rail lines and the U.S. Air Force Plant 42 are all located nearby, as are some of the area’s major aerospace companies.

Sierra Business Park. High-quality existing space for office and industrial use is available at the 22-acre Sierra Business Park. The park, located at 10th Street and Avenue M-4, is positioned within the AVEZ and is close by State Highway 14.

Sierra Gateway Business Park. Spanning 133 acres along Sierra Highway, the Sierra Gateway Business Park encompasses two major professional office buildings and plenty of open land for development and expansion. Major thoroughfares can be easily accessed, and its location places it within the AVEZ and Palmdale FTZ.

Palmdale Trade and Commerce Center. Situated on nearly 750 acres, the Palmdale Trade and Commerce Center is already home to several major companies, including Senior Systems Technology and Entenmann’s Bakery Outlet and Distribution Center, and is currently constructing 35 commercial condominium properties, seven single-story professional medical office buildings and a professional office building. Additionally, a number of further projects have been approved and are in the final planning stages or under construction.

BUSINESS RESOURCES Area Higher Learning Institutions. The Antelope Valley is teeming with educational opportunities at its local colleges and universities. Continuing education courses, training programs and further workforce-related programs can be found at the Antelope Valley College campus in Lancaster and the area’s several extension campuses including California State University Bakersfield, Chapman University, University of La Verne, University of Phoenix and California State University Fresno. The Palmdale Institute of Technology is home to the AERO Institute and provides college-credit courses in aerospace technology from several higher learning institutions. Students can access California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering; University of California, San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering; California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo; Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University; Pepperdine University, CalTech and the highly-esteemed Purdue University College of Engineering.

Palmdale Chamber of Commerce. With more than 700 member businesses, the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce has remained a fixture in the area’s economy since its inception. The Chamber strives to encourage and bring together the business community, as well as the community at-large. Members are afforded a wide scope of programs designed to help member businesses succeed. Legislative advocacy, networking opportunities, relocation assistance, promotion, educational offerings, referrals and useful information are some of the benefits to Chamber membership.

Small Business Development Center. Free business consulting, notably in the areas of access to capital, procurement, marketing, accounting and bookkeeping, management and human resources, can be accessed through the Small Business Development Center in Palmdale. The SBDC’s services were created in order to aid in the success of local businesses.

South Valley WorkSource Center. Opening its doors in 2005, the South Valley WorkSource Center provides Palmdale with workforce development services, bringing together job seekers and pertinent employers. In addition to linking worker skills with the appropriate company, the organization offers training services, important information for businesses and much more.
