The city's expansion is fueled by an outstanding quality of life, which includes clean air, affordable housing, educational opportunities and dynamic growth in the industrial, retail and tourism industries. State-of-the-art health facilities also abound in the valley, with three world-class medical centers close by. Schools range from private to public, nursery to college. Palm Desert Campus is the newest branch of California State University, San Bernardino, which complements the College of the Desert Community College. The University of California Riverside also holds classes in the desert community, as does Chapman College. The Desert Sands Unified School District oversees public education from elementary to high school and offers community education and vocational training as well, through its adult school. A multi-agency library, one of the first in the United States, provides the advantages of both academic and public libraries and is housed with the College of the Desert Library. The library is the result of cooperation and support from city and county governments, educational institutions and civic groups.
