Pomona’s leaders have a lot of great ideas for the city and its future. They’ve developed those ideas through a series of community-wide visioning exercises, and enumerated them in updates to the city’s General Plan and a Downtown Specific Plan. As a result, Pomona has made significant progress in a host of areas, including:
• Street and highway improvements
• Commercial, retail, industrial and residential development
• Revitalization efforts, both downtown and in the city’s residential neighborhoods
• Public Safety
• Employment and educational opportunities
• Redefined land-use strategies
Pomona’s residents are diverse, upwardly mobile, and hard-working – a community that’s eager to make the most of every opportunity. Our population, now over 158,000, includes nearly 40,000 households. This translates into a tremendous need for goods and services. Pomona’s population density means great consumer buying demand.
Pomonians value education – 18% of our adults 25 and older hold college degrees, and another 18.3% have attended college. They’re enrolling in increasing numbers at the city’s educational institutions including California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Western University of Health Sciences, Cal Poly’s Center for Training, Technology & Incubation, and DeVry University.
Where do Pomonians work?

• Over 22% hold management or professional positions
• Approximately 17% are in service-sector jobs

Recent new business developments include the Mission Promenade – a multi-million dollar, mixed use development that combines office and retail space with residential units in a three-story urban village environment; The city’s purchase of Pomona’s historic Fox Theatre – a landmark ideal for public entertainment, performing arts, and recreational activities; Carriage Walk Homes – a stunning residential community in North Pomona featuring 117 homes; New construction of a neighborhood Walgreen’s Drug Store and the proposed addition of a McDonald’s Restaurant.
Pomona is ahead of the curve when it comes to crime reduction efforts in Southern California. We’ve recorded a 44% decline in crime over the past decade – better than the 39% drop registered in L.A. County and statewide.

Life is safer and better in Pomona today, because our citizens are part of the solution. Pomona residents participate actively in the National WeTip Hotline, reporting suspicious activity. Our business owners are actively involved in a Business Watch program, helping to keep our business districts safe for all. In addition, many enroll in the Pomona Police Department’s Business Academy Program, which keeps them up-to-date on the latest crime trends and crime prevention techniques.
