Port Hueneme Historical Museum

The former Bank of Hueneme building was founded by Thomas R. Bard in 1889. Designed by Myron Hunt, the well-known architect of the Huntington Library and Occidental College, the building was completed in 1925.

Security First National Bank purchased the building in1950. In 1952, the Bank of Hueneme was dissolved. The city later purchased the property, and the building served as City Hall from 1960 to 1973. The former bank became the new home of both the Historical Museum and the Chamber of Commerce in 1973 and was designated a Ventura County Landmark in 1976.

In 1976, a five-member Historical Museum Commission was appointed by the City Council to preserve Hueneme’s history and oversee operation of the museum. Displays of early Hueneme memorabilia, furniture, clothing and photo exhibits are available for viewing Monday through Friday. Appointments are recommended for group visits to the museum.
