Rancho Mirage Country Club Living

Mission Hills Country Club

Mission Hills Country Club
A rich history with unique traditions, a superb site with world-class amenities and a prestigious membership—Rancho Mirage’s Mission Hills Country Club has all the elements that define a great private club. For over 35 years, Mission Hills Country Club, set among the picturesque mountains of the Coachella Valley, has established itself as one of the premier country clubs in Palm Springs Valley and the premier location for jet-setters, celebrities, professional athletes, retirees, baby-boomers and young families alike. Desert Magazine named Mission Hills Country Club “Best Private Golf Course” in 2007.

From their accommodating and committed staff to their state-of-the-art, all-inclusive facilities, Mission Hills is sure to have something for everyone. The Club boasts three exceptionally manicured championship golf courses, which feature nearly unheard of double fairways. The pristine courses are matched by full golf practice facilities including an all-grass driving range, short game area and multiple putting greens. The Club proudly continues to host the LPGA’s Kraft-Nabisco Championship Tournament on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course, rated the number one course in the Palm Springs Valley.

“The variety that each of the three courses offer—as well as a great practice facility—is why I joined Mission Hills,” commented member and Olympic Bronze Medalist Toby Dawson.

Mission Hills Tennis Club

In addition to their unmatched golf facilities, Mission Hills also offers a first-class tennis complex and national award-winning croquet courts. Mission Hills Tennis Club has been recognized by the USTA, ITF, and ATP Tour professionals as one of the finest tennis facilities in the world, offering 20 hard courts, four clay courts, five world-class lawn tennis courts and its own clubhouse.

A brand new $4 million, 17,000-square-foot Spa and Sports Center features a pool complex with a junior Olympic pool and children’s pool, a brand new café and knowledgeable personnel to indulge its members with luxurious spa treatments, cutting-edge exercise classes and personal training tailored to individual goals and needs.

If Mission Hills’ world-renowned golf, tennis, croquet and spa facilities were not enough, the club also offers two opulent clubhouses, showcasing premier dining and social experiences. Members can dine at the Main Dining Room, the Member’s Lounge, the casual Players Grill or the new Café at the Spa & Sports Center.

Desert Island Country Club
One of the more unique country clubs in Rancho Mirage would have to be Desert Island. Desert Island’s 160 acres are filled with manicured lawns, a multitude of palms and other trees, viewing areas, paved walkways and yes, even a meditative rose garden where residents can contemplate the serenity of it all. People who have lived in the desert for years and have regularly driven past Desert Island are amazed that there are three “high-rise” seven- and five-story buildings at the club.

Desert Island Country Club

Built in the early 1970s, the world-class Desert Island Country Club is at the intersection of Frank Sinatra Drive and Bob Hope Drive in the heart of Rancho Mirage. Situated on prime real estate, it consists of three separate “high-rise” condominium buildings with a total of 226 units, located on an island that is surrounded by a 25-acre lake. Two buildings have seven stories, and the third has five. Resale units at Desert Island measure between 1,500 and 4,000 square feet, and range in price from as low as $450,000 to upwards of one million dollars for the penthouse units.

The private 18-hole golf course designed by Desmond Muirhead is laid out along the perimeter of Desert Island. It features 6,686 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71.7 and it has a slope rating of 123 on Bluegrass. This immaculately maintained and mature course of traditional design features well-bunkered rolling fairways along the meandering lake. The lake provides water hazards for golfers and gorgeous views for residents.

Amenities at Desert Island Country Club and Condominium Community include two lighted tennis courts, a yacht club and fishing. There is an annual regatta and BBQ at the yacht club featuring pedal boat races. Each building has its own pool and spa. A 39,000-square-foot clubhouse, which was recently renovated, is home to the private golf and country club.

Desert Island is a member-owned golf and country club limited to 280 full dues-paying golfing members, which makes tee times easily accessible. There are no homes on the golf course, as private residences are located on an “island” separated from the club by the 25-acre lake.
