Schools

Tuolumne County is home to approximately 6,500 students who attend public schools. These young people have special talents, interests and needs as diverse as the county in which they live.

Tuolumne County has a Superintendent of Schools Office, which provides county-wide leadership and support, contributing to a strong instructional program from kindergarten through high school. The county is served by 11 public school districts, including two high school districts and one unified school district, along with one community college. In addition, there are four private schools with enrollments over 50. Enrollment figures in the public schools vary from year to year in relation to current employment opportunities within the county.

The Special Education needs of Tuolumne students are currently served through the SELPA office, which operates under the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Office.

Families looking to relocate to Tuolumne County are urged to visit both elementary and high school campuses in the county and to visit administrators and review the programs and classes each school has to offer to assist them with their relocation choices.

Columbia College Columbia College is a public community college that offers a comprehensive general education leading to an associate degree and/or an occupational certificate or transfer to a four-year institution.

In the summer of 2005, 3,500 students were enrolled at the college with 64 percent being residents of Tuolumne County. The college was founded in 1968 and is part of the Yosemite Community College District. It is located on more than 200 acres of forest land adjacent to Columbia State Historic Park.
