Turlock’s mild climate makes it not only a wonderful place to live, but a great place to play. There are several recreational activities available in Turlock such as parks, golf courses, lakes and tennis courts.

Turlock Lake and Don Pedro Reservoir offer many fun activities including boating, fishing, jet-skiing and water-skiing. Turlock is also home to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds host many different entertainment venues throughout the year including the Stanislaus County Fair. For golf lovers, there is the Turlock Golf and Country Club, the Stevinson Ranch Golf Club, which is just a few miles outside of town, and the Diablo Grande Golf Courses in the foothills above nearby Patterson. Also available in Turlock are several fitness centers, public swimming pools and billiard halls. CSUS Warrior Athletics hosts an ongoing schedule of collegiate athletic events, and the sports complex and Pedretti Park cater to youth and community sport venues.

Winter sports enthusiasts can find snow-skiing within a two-hour drive. Dodge Ridge is located about 90 minutes away off of Highway 108 above Sonora while Bear Valley is about a two-hour drive off of Highway 4.

One of the truly exciting aspects of Turlock is that it is home to California State University Stanislaus (CSUS). Both the local community and visitors benefit from the campus as it serves as a delightful venue for many wonderful open-air concerts, first-rate arts and entertainment activities, and opportunities to attend athletic events and tournaments featuring the CSUS Warrior athletic teams. In the fall of 2008, a brand new Student Recreation Complex featuring a state-of-the-art track, soccer stadium and fitness center was opened, as well as a new bookstore that is an architectural showpiece.

The City provides a variety of recreation, sports and art activities for children, youth and adults. The division focuses on implementing activities that promote health, wellness, fitness, and art and cultural experiences. The division is recognized for offering quality youth after-school programs as well as coordinating community events such as the Christmas Parade, Family Fitness Festival, Greenery Garden Party and numerous Sports Tournaments. Residents planning celebrations and functions at city parks, picnic areas and facilities can contact the Recreation Division for reservations.

When it is not fair time, our grounds and its facilities are available to rent. This 72-acre campus becomes home to nationally-known events such as the Modesto Area Model A’s Swap Meet and local events like the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo, quilt shows, dog shows and even wedding receptions. Stevinson Ranch Golf Course is located just 10 miles from Turlock and is open to the public. It is located at 2700 N. Van Clief Road east of Stevinson.

Turlock Golf and Country Club

Open to members, guests of members and members of clubs with reciprocal agreements, the Turlock Golf and Country Club is located on Golf Links Road about five miles south of Turlock.

Bear Valley Mountain Resort

Located off of Highway 4 and about a two-hour drive from Turlock, Bear Valley offers downhill and cross-country skiing.

Dodge Ridge Ski Area

Dodge Ridge Ski Area is located off of Highway 108 at Pinecrest and is approximately a 90-minute drive from Turlock.

Don Pedro Reservoir

About 40 miles from Turlock and a few miles from the intersection of Hwy 132 and La Grange Road, the Don Pedro Reservoir is a huge lake that winds through the foothills for miles, offering an abundance of camping and water sports activities.

Turlock Lake State Recreation Area

This recreational area is located on Lake Road about 20 miles from Turlock. Picnic grounds, swimming, camping, boating, fishing and water-skiing are plentiful. Bring all needed refreshments and supplies as there are no nearby stores.

PARKS

Turlock has over 24 community and neighborhood parks for your enjoyment. These parks provide a safe, fun recreational location for relaxing, sports and picnics. The city’s parks include everything from benches and picnic tables to sports facilities and miniature lakes. Donnelly Park offers a dramatic miniature lake, a large children’s play area, basketball courts, picnic facilities and more. Donnelly Park is the city of Turlock’s premier community park. Donnelly Park maintains hundreds of beautiful trees, which provide a very shady environment for family gatherings and a comfortable haven during the summer heat. Donnelly Park offers picnic sites that can be reserved for private functions. There are two covered picnic sites that can be reserved. These sites vary in size, but all include picnic tables, barbeques and trash receptacles. The park provides a restroom facility, playground area and paved parking lot on the east and west sides of the park.

Crane Park

Crane Park, located across the street from Turlock High School, includes shaded picnic areas, restroom facility, playground equipment for children and 10 horseshoe pits for family or tournament play (some sites can be reserved by large groups). It is a favorite spot for family and group picnics.

Pedretti Park

This facility includes four softball fields, a hardball field, batting cages, three grass volleyball courts, a concession stand, covered bleachers, drinking fountains, picnic areas, a large covered picnic area that can be reserved for special events, a fully accessible tot playground area, restroom facilities, hundreds of shade trees and two parking lots.

Turlock Regional Sports Complex

This 30-acre complex includes 14 soccer fields, which are used by Turlock Youth Soccer Association and is the host site for many state soccer tournaments. The complex includes a restroom facility, landscaped parking lots on the east and west sides of the complex, two first class softball diamonds with covered bleachers, scoreboards, an outdoors amphitheater, a large picnic area in the center plaza area, complex signage, a tot playground area, benches, an informational kiosk in the plaza area and lots of shade trees. The complex is bordered on the east and west sides by two neighborhood parks, which include two sand volleyball courts, playground areas, picnic tables with BBQ’s, a half-court basketball court, drinking fountains and a large covered picnic area that can be reserved. The complex is one of the finest in the valley. The entire family can spend the day recreating and enjoying the many amenities that are offered at the complex.
