Chairman of the Board

2013 is going to be an exciting year and I appreciate the opportunity to serve the business community as the Chairman of the Turlock Chamber of Commerce. We have a great group of people assembled for the board of directors who will work hard to promote a strong local economy.

Turlock is an amazing city and a great place to raise a family and run a business. It offers an outstanding quality of life and has created a place where people can live, work, learn, shop and play. As a small business owner in Turlock, I appreciate what it means to be living and working in a business friendly community. To name a few, Turlock has:

1) A welcoming attitude to people, families and businesses.
2) Pro-business approach by local government officials.
3) CSU Stanislaus for work force training and education.
4) An active and supportive Chamber of Commerce

I also appreciate the burden of rising health care costs being placed on businesses around the country. Most recent estimates for 2011 annual premiums for employer-sponsored family health coverage average over $15,000 per year ($11,000 covered by employers and $4,000 covered by employees). With the Supreme Court decision to uphold the 2010 health reform law we will see even more of the cost burden shifted to individual workers and businesses. In order to offset these external cost pressures we must invest in well designed, coordinated employee wellness initiatives, rather that more costly disease management and injury care. The Turlock Chamber of Commerce is leading the way with creative new health care initiatives for member businesses. Fortunately for Turlock we also have a community hospital with excellent physicians.

The Turlock Chamber of Commerce will work hard to promote local businesses and local community. They will provide networking opportunities and represent the interests of business with government. The Chamber will take the appropriate steps to ensure economic growth and therefore economic stability.
