Tulare and Kings counties are ideally nestled within the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, the southern portion of California’s Central Valley. The area sits between Fresno to the north and Bakersfield to the south, with convenient access to the major cities of Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, Riverside-San Bernardino and San Diego.
Interstate 5, a major north-south route connecting several major California cities, runs through the area, as do numerous state highways, including routes 33, 41, 43, 63, 65, 99, 198 and 269. Rail service is provided through the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe, Union Pacific and San Joaquin Valley Railroad, with commercial connections for Amtrak located at the Visalia Transit Center. Greyhound offers a connection in the area for those traveling long distance, while local public transit is available through Tulare County Transit and Kings Area Rural Transit.
Visalia Municipal Airport provides daily commercial flight services through Great Lakes Airlines, which offers a link to LA/Ontario International Airport. Aircraft maintenance, charter services, flight instruction and aircraft rental round out the services offered through the City-operated airport. Kings County’s Hanford Municipal Airport is a general aviation facility housing approximately 75 aircraft.
