REAL ESTATE & HOUSING
The city of Walnut Creek is a large, flourishing community nestled below magnificent Mount Diablo in the heart of Contra Costa County. Less than an hour from San Francisco, as well as the world-class wine regions of Napa and Livermore Valley, Walnut Creek remains one of the most sought after places in the region. Residents have easy access to extraordinary shopping and dining opportunities, as well as a wide range of recreation choices.
The combination of solid buyer demand and limited residential growth has kept housing values strong in Walnut Creek, making the area a premium place in which to own a home. Peacefully quiet, carefully planned neighborhoods in the upper Ygnacio Valley area are dotted with parks, schools, neighborhood swim clubs and hiking trails. More mature areas are somewhat rural in character, and offer excellent parks, schools and recreational facilities.
The special character and personality of each of the unique residential areas is preserved as local government routes the traffic flow around the neighborhood. In addition, the city has joined with schools and community groups to build and maintain neighborhood gymnasiums and sports fields.
Seniors have easy access to golf courses, community clubs, special interest groups and excellent health care facilities. Retirement communities are called the “country club of senior living,” as many are located between the city of Walnut Creek and recreational space.
STATE-OF-THE-ART HEALTH FACILITIES
State-of-the-art medical facilities serve the Walnut Creek area and private physicians, dentists, chiropractors and other health professionals are readily available to offer an assortment of health-related services. John Muir/Mt. Diablo Health System, Kaiser Permanente and Children’s Hospital contribute to the ever-expanding medical services available for Walnut Creek.
John Muir Medical Center, named one of the 50 best hospitals in America, is a 321-bed facility with a specialized team of highly trained professionals ready for any emergency. It is currently undergoing a $621 million expansion, to be completed in 2011.
As health care needs expand, so does Walnut Creek’s capacity to serve. Walnut Creek has several other hospitals that cater to specific needs. Manor Care Health Services and Guardian of Rossmoor are nursing facilities, while the Walnut Creek Alzheimer’s and Dementia facility provides psychiatric care. A number of family services and health-related facilities are also available, including crisis centers, the American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood, health districts, counseling centers, rehabilitation clinics and adult care centers.
