
The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida and St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville serve the county. The HRRMC opened a new state-of-the-art hospital in April of 2008. There are three clinics in town and five doctors. Visiting doctors and therapists allow for a good variety of treatment in Buena Vista or at one of the hospitals. There are two pharmacies in town. 911 calls the ambulance, firemen or police for emergencies, and there is Flight For Life for injuries or illnesses that cannot be handled locally. Public Health offers well-baby clinics, blood pressure clinics and a variety of other services. A new, free Chaffee Peoples’ Clinic was started in 2007. There are two dentists in town and one optometrist. Chiropractors, massage therapists and an acupuncturist are also available. A natural health foods store provides herbs, vitamins and a good variety of natural foods.
