The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida and St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville serve the county. The HRRMC opened a new state of the art hospital in April of 2008. There are two clinics in town and five doctors. Visiting doctors and therapists allow for a good variety of treatment in Buena Vista or at one of the hospitals. There are two pharmacies in town; 911 calls the ambulance, firemen or police for emergencies and there is Flight For Life for injuries or illnesses that cannot be handled locally. Public Health offers well-baby clinics, blood pressure clinics and a variety of other services. A new free Chaffee Peoples’ Clinic was started in 2007. There are two dentists in town and one optometrist. Chiropractors, massage therapists and an acupuncturist are also available. A natural health foods store provides herbs, vitamins, and a good variety of natural foods.
