Delta is positioned in west-central Colorado, a little more than one hour from the Colorado/Utah border. Its ideal location places it approximately 40 miles southeast of Grand Junction and 22 miles north of Montrose.
The city and surrounding communities are well-served by several major thoroughfares, including U.S. Highways 50 and 550, and CO Highways 92, 65 (the Grand Mesa Scenic and Historic Byway runs along CO Highway 65), 133 and 348, with easy access to Interstate 70 just north of Grand Junction.
Delta hosts Blake Field, a full-service public airport utilized by local and private corporate aircraft. Main transportation hubs are located in nearby Grand Junction and Montrose, which each host an airport offering commercial passenger service to various regional destinations. Passenger rail is available through the Amtrak station in Grand Junction, while freight connections are made in nearby Paonia, which is served by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) and the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific (UP/SP).
