Delta, an "All American City," is home to approximately 7,500 residents with an additional 4,000 residents within a five-mile radius. Delta is located at the confluence of the Gunnison and Uncompahgre Rivers. Chartered in 1883, the city has developed with a wide and diverse geographic, historic, and economic structure. Active historic preservation efforts have resulted in a listing of over 20 sites and buildings on the local register. The city's colorful history is depicted through beautifully painted murals along the main avenue. graphic

Confluence Park, 265 acres of open space, offers a 70 acre stocked fishing lake, five miles of handicap accessible walking/bike paths, wildlife interpretive venues, tennis courts, in-line skating complex, and recreation center. Also within the park you will find Fort Uncompahgre Living History Museum, Horse Country Arena, and outdoors amphitheater and the Council Tree Pow Wow Arbor.

At an elevation of 4961 feet, Delta's mild dry climate is exceptional with warm summer temperatures in the 90's. Autumn is crowned with beautiful colors that lead into our 'banana belt' winter. Blessed with plenty of water, warm days and cool nights, the area produces incredible fruit, produce and row crops such as broccoli, lettuce, beans and onions. The river valley rises to a series of plateaus, eventually reaching Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service public land at elevations to 11,000 feet.

All roads lead to Delta! Main Street is host to Historic U.S. 50, one of the main southern coast-to-coast highway transportation corridors. Other prominent Colorado highways within the county include: Colorado Highway 92, providing access to the north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Highway 65, providing travel over the Grand Mesa National Forest to Interstate 70; and Highway 133 to Redstone, connecting with Highway 82 on to Aspen, or Glenwood Springs and Interstate 70. The Grand Mesa and West-Elk Scenic and Historic Byways take visitors through varied countryside, which is rich in history.

Air and rail passenger service is located in Grand Junction; Montrose has commercial air service also. Delta's Blake Field is a full service public airport that serves local privacy and corporate aircraft. The runway, 5,600 feet, can handle small jet aircraft. Commercial freight trains serve coalmines located in the Paonia/Somerset area.
