Evans sits within an hour’s drive of some of the country’s most breathtaking sites, starting with Rocky Mountain National Park, which contains more than 167,000 acres of the Rocky Mountains. The route leads through the scenic Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park. Attractions include meadows, lakes, streams, forest, glacial moraines and abundant wildlife. Trail Ridge Road, an especially panoramic route, usually is open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Popular park activities include motoring, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain climbing, camping and wildlife viewing.

Pawnee National Grassland spans 193,000 acres of shortgrass prairie and is home to a variety of wildlife. The Crow Valley Recreation Area near Briggsdale provides camping and picnicking sites. Pawnee Buttes tower more than 300 feet above the surrounding plain and can be reached via a 1.5 mile hike.

Closer to home, Evans capitalizes on its hometown atmosphere by sponsoring Evans Days every second Saturday in June. The community event featuring entertainment, parades, pet shows, crafts and a Little Miss Evans Pageant, attracts between 4,000 and 4,500 visitors annually.

Thanks to the expanding business base and airport operations, Weld County provides the necessary lodging to assure visitors they won’t be turned away from a comfortable bed at the end of the day.
