Local newspaper reports confirm that the Evans housing market is exploding: jumping from 22 residential building permits in 1998 to 201 just a year later. Evans expected to issue over 500 residential permits through 2000. Those numbers continue to rise, thanks to new sub-divisions such as The Chappelow Village, Timberline Village, Ashcroft Heights, Hunters Reserve, and The Bay at the Landings. Additionally, 240 new apartments are under construction to join the manufactured homes and duplex options. (Currently, the median rent price is an affordable $341 per month). Other developers are continuing with plans to build neighborhood complexes that extend to include retail outlets and recreational facilities as well, for what they call "communities within communities." The AMS HomeFinder
report for Realtors shows the average median home value is $57,300, and
features three bedrooms.
In the existing home market, the median year built is 1974. And while
this spells good news for starter homes, the move-up market (houses in
the $200,000 to $300,000 range) is also taking root.
