The
City of Evans has an outstanding parks and recreation system that is widely
used by both Evans and Weld County residents. The maintenance of high
standards in recreation and tourism is vital to ensure a prosperous economic
future for the city - in fact, Colorado Lottery proceeds go to help fund
parks, recreation, open space and trails throughout the state.
Evans recently
opened the doors on its first community center, in addition to these activities:
Swimming: The
Evans Municipal outdoor swimming pool is a wonderful asset to the city. The
Recreation Department has a diversified program offering a variety of
activities for all ages.
Playgrounds: Evans has more than 100 acres of developed park sites. Village
Park offers two lighted tennis courts, a large playground area, pavilion,
picnic tables, grills, basketball courts and open turf. City Park features
a spacious playground, unique pavilion, basketball courts, softball field,
horseshoe pits, picnic areas and shade provided by many large, mature
trees. Finally, Riverside Park features a 15-acre lake that is stocked
annually with trout. Two miles of scenic trails, fishing docks, ball fields
and many acres of undeveloped open space beckon to visitors, as well.
Golf: There
are seven golf courses in the Evans area, six featuring 18 holes and one
9-hole green.
Because the outdoors
plays such a vital role in the area, skills workshops for children ages
4-16 abound. Youth in the area can take advantage of a head start on safe,
responsible approaches to fishing, casting, marksmanship, bows, and how
to read animal tracks and recognize wildlife.
