Loveland Cherishes its Art

Loveland is fast becoming known for its art as well as its heart. With more than 100 bronze sculptures throughout the community, Loveland is host to the largest outdoor sculpture show and sale in North America.

The nonprofit Loveland High Plains Arts Council organizes the “Sculpture in the Park” exhibition in Benson Sculpture Garden Park the second weekend in August. In 1985, Loveland became the first Colorado city to pass an Art in Public Places ordinance. This designates one percent of the City’s capital construction projects (of $50,000 or more) for the purchase of art.

Funds are used to purchase and present sculpture to the City of Loveland for public art display, and to support art education in Loveland area schools. More than $25,000 was donated to the schools in 2001.

Art in the Park – Arts and Crafts Festival is held during the two sculpture shows, and is sponsored by the Thompson Valley Art League. This annual event includes participants from all parts of the country making this one of the largest outdoor Arts and Crafts shows in Northern Colorado.
