Attractions
Southern Colorado is renowned for its natural splendor and breathtaking views of Pikes Peak. Pike National Forest is comprised of over 1,105,704 acres encompassing the Front Range. Visitors can enjoy scenic drives, hiking and biking trails while watching the local wildlife.
For the first time since 2001, the United States Air Force Academy has re-opened its public access to previously closed areas. The Barry Goldwater Air Force Academy Visitor Center serves as the gateway to the United States Air Force Academy, providing information on its history and cadet life to hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Nationally recognized for its architectural and natural beauty, the Academy was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Visitors are invited to enjoy a self-guided tour through Arnold Hall and Honor Court as well as enjoy the one-third mile paved nature trail to the Cadet Chapel.
The US Air Force Academy’s biking and hiking trails offer some of the best hiking in the region. Its road-biking loops and hikes make it a local favorite turning the Academy into a top destination for all things outdoors. The grounds traverse into the Pike National Forest and offer numerous trekking choices to remote reservoirs with challenging trails to 360 degree views of Pikes Peak and the city. At 18,500 acres, the choices vary from 13 mile single track loops to steep five mile round trip hikes. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cliff Dwellings and the Cave of the Winds all offer breathtaking panoramas with distinctive red rock formations. Other destinations include the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Seven Falls and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and Crystal Reservoir, offering year round hiking and fishing.
