Most cities can boast an impressive array of movie theaters, a wide variety of dining options and a host of exciting nightspots. The Trinidad area has all those standard amenities, but what sets it apart are the one-of-a-kind attractions and celebrations that continue to make the area a model for how to create excitement in a small community.
Each year the Trinidad & Las Animas County Chamber of Commerce hosts the Santa Fe Trail Festival in the second weekend of June. This downtown celebration features music, food, arts and crafts, dancing and attractions for kids. Admission to the event is free. Among other activities included are historical reenactments, living history and numerous exhibits at local museums and galleries.
For the past seven years, Trinidad has hosted the Trinidaddio Blues Fest in Central Park. Typically held on the Saturday before Labor Day weekend, the music starts early and ends late and is accompanied by plenty of food, drinks, arts and events. Other festival events include an annual Pre-Fest All-Star Blues Jam that has become very popular for fest-goers. For a nominal price, ticket holders are treated to live blues, a full buffet and beverage specials. For more information about this event, please visit www.trinidaddio.com.
The Trinidad State Junior College hosts plays, musicals, and music recitals in the Massari Performing Arts Center. Additionally, the Southern Colorado Repertory Theatres professional troupe puts on a variety of plays every summer for the public to enjoy.
