With a steadily growing population of just over 16,000, residents of Windsor can select from a variety of recreational activities in many locations throughout the community. In addition to picturesque Windsor Lake, over 130 acres of land has been dedicated to parks and recreational facilities.
These include an outdoor swimming pool, two outdoor in-line hockey rinks, a skateboard facility, a dog park, miles of walking, biking and in-line skating paths and several playgrounds and sport/recreational parks. The Windsor Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing the highest quality recreational experiences while simultaneously preserving the resources, wildlife and history in the area. An active and dynamic park district, an abundance of modern facilities and the variety of activities available keep Windsor residents active year-round.
Funded by grants, in-kind donations and individual contributions, the 19-mile long Poudre River Trail is nearly complete and is already a big hit with Windsor residents. With nearly 10 miles open near Windsor, the trail offers walking, biking, running, rollerblading or any other non-motorized travel. Recreational enthusiasts will also be able to enjoy historical sites, educational opportunities and some of the most beautiful scenery available in Northern Colorado.
Boating on Windsor Lake has also just gotten a nice boost. Previously, members of the Windsor Boat Club were the only people allowed to launch boats onto Windsor Lake. Recently however, the boat ramps have opened to the general public, allowing just about anyone to spend a relaxing day floating on the crystal waves of the lake. Anglers can fish for perch, bluegill, catfish and trout year-round and boating permits are available on a daily or annual basis for residents and non-residents alike.
