Standing Committees
Finance and Budget: Review, monitor and prepare the Plainville Chamber of Commerce’s finances and budget. Make recommendations as how to better manage the Chamber’s funds.
Economic Development/Government Affairs: Provide help for new businesses wanting to locate in Plainville through education, assistance and support. Monitor governmental activities and work as an advocate for businesses on local and state issues.
Nominating Committee: This committee is responsible for nominating new Board Members and Officers for the Board of Directors representative of a cross section of our member businesses.
Membership Directory: This committee participates in the selection of the publishing/printing company, the design format, text and other relevant tasks required to produce the two-year Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory.
Chamber Development Committee: This committee is responsible for effectively marketing the value of belonging to the Plainville Chamber of Commerce to current, as well as potential, members.
Ambassador Committee: This group of volunteers calls on potential businesses to
discuss the benefits of Chamber membership.
Event Committees
Annual Dinner Meeting & Awards: This event is held to acknowledge the Chamber’s Officers and Directors as well as recognize the “Employee of the Year,” the “Volunteer/Citizen of the Year,” the “Distinguished Volunteer of the Year” and to honor the “Business Recognition Award” recipient. Award recipients are chosen through a nomination and judging process.
Chamber/Rotary Club Economic Forecast Luncheon: Program will cover issues affecting Connecticut’s economy and financial prospects for the year.
Spring Into Auction: This yearly silent auction helps to raise funds for special educational needs, projects and scholarships for our community schools, as well as other Chamber projects. Committee members attend scheduled meetings to help plan for this event and solicit both monetary donations as well as donations of goods or services from area businesses.
“Staff” Kellam Breakfast: Various college and vocational/trade school scholarships, donated by area benefactor businesses and the Chamber of Commerce, are awarded to students and residents at this annual breakfast event.
Golf Outing: This is an annual event which requires committee members to attend scheduled meetings to help with planning, soliciting donations, gathering hand-outs, advertising and other aspects of making this golfing event a success.
An Evening of Wine & Beer Tasting: Featuring Connecticut wines and brews, as well as regional and national brands. Hors d’oeuvres provided.
Christmas Downtown Open House: This is a yearly event scheduled in conjunction with the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and a visit from Santa Claus. Area businesses host an open house featuring caroling, refreshments, horse-drawn trolley, raffle prizes and more.
Christmas Ornaments: A different pewter ornament is designed each year commemorating the Town of Plainville. The ornament can be purchased at the Chamber office.
