At the geographic center of the state, Plainville is approximately 14 miles from Hartford, Connecticut's state capital, and just a two-hour ride from either Boston or New York. It is bisected by I-84 with convenient connections to I-91, I-691, and Routes 9, 72, 372, 6 and 4.

Connecticut Route 72, a limited access highway bisects Plainville and intersects with Interstate 84 in Plainville. Interstate 84 is the major east-west limited access highway in Connecticut and connects Plainville to Boston, New York City and the Mid-West. Connecticut Route 72 intersects with Connecticut Route 9, a limited access highway, in New Britain. Connecticut Route 9 carries traffic from this area to Interstate 91 and Interstate 95. These limited access highways are the major north-south routes and connect Plainville to New York City and the Long Island Sound Markets. Local intrastate markets are easily accessible over these highways and over upgraded, four lane networks including U.S. Route 6, Connecticut Route 10, and the Merritt Parkway.

Robertson Airport
One of the busiest corporate and private aircraft facilities in central Connecticut, it is an independently owned airport for general aviation, as well as corporate and private charter services. Robertson Airport is managed by Interstate Aviation, Inc. located at 62 Johnson Avenue.

Bradley International Airport is located approximately 35 miles from Plainville off of I-91 North.

Bus
Service from Plainville to New Britain and Bristol with connections to Hartford.

Rail
Local freight service by the Boston and Maine railroad operates along Conrail trackage. Currently, there are two local freight schedules to the west via the City of Waterbury and to the east and south via the Town of Plainville.
