With its rich history and natural beauty, Georgetown is a town with a
long-standing tradition of community spirit. Residents and businesses
have joined together to create a community innovative in business and
committed to the needs of families.
Georgetown - with a population just under 5,000 - is the seat of government
for Sussex County, and the town’s outstanding quality of life is
enhanced by its prime location in the center of the county.
Due to the central location and being the County Seat, Georgetown is home
to a major campus with four colleges, significant medical facilities that
represent three hospitals, federal, state and county offices and Sussex
County’s only public airport. The town’s center - “The
Circle” - is listed in the National Historic Record with a number
of historic buildings, including the Sussex County Courthouse. Town and
community life revolve around The Circle, where many events take place,
including Return Day, a biannual festival that celebrates the winners
of that November’s election.
