The brick-lined sidewalks in The Circle are a central part of life in
Georgetown, and both residents and visitors rely on the shopping and dining
opportunities afforded there. The town is brimming with quaint shops,
and has become a destination for antique and other specialty shoppers.
A host of shops, restaurants and services are conveniently located, and
offer a wide array of one-of-a-kind treasures and dining choices. The
offerings continue to expand as the town grows.
In addition to its historic sites, Georgetown has numerous recreational
diversions and events.
Museums include the Georgetown Train Station, the Nutter D. Marvel Carriage
Museum, the Treasures of the Sea Exhibit and the Elsie Williams Doll Collection.
The Delaware Aviation Museum has just opened at the Sussex County Airport.
Outdoor attractions in Georgetown include the Trees of the States garden
(a collection of trees from all 50 states) and golfing at Sussex Pines,
Sports at the Beach, Georgetown Little League fields, Bedford Street Park
and Delaware Tech amenities.
Events
Sussex County Return Day
Bi-annual event held the Thursday after the national election. Features
a parade, reading of the election results, burying of the hatchet and
much more.
Olde Georgetown Family Fun Days
Five-night event with music, family fun and food.
Living History Weekend
Georgetown Historical Society event that features a Civil War re-enactment
at the Marvel
Carriage Museum.
Peninsula Bluegrass Festival
Annual two-day event of music and family fun held at the Marvel Carriage
Museum.
Easter Egg Hunt
Held on a Saturday near Easter at the Marvel
Carriage Museum
Georgetown Christmas Parade
