High quality education is a priority in Georgetown, and the Indian River
School District serves residents with fine schools and a number of award-winning
special programs for students from pre-school through high school.
The Outdoor Education Center at Ingram Pond is an example of the districts
innovative programs. It provides elementary and middle school students
the opportunity to perform hands-on experiments to expand on the science
concepts taught in the classroom. The Indian River schools and programs
have enabled students to score among the state’s best in the Delaware
State Testing Program.
Sussex Technical High School, located on Route 9 in Georgetown, serves
students from all over Sussex County, from grades 9-12. With many award-winning
programs, the school holds the title as a Blue Ribbon School. Sussex Technical
School also has an excellent adult educational program.
Private schools in Georgetown include the Jefferson School (an independent
day school), Delmarva Christian High School (a privately funded school
that requires six weeks of community service) and Sussex County School
of Arts and Science.
The Jack F. Owens Campus of the Delaware Technical & Community College
is the county hub for higher education. The college has established connected
degrees with various regional institutions to ensure that Delaware Tech
associate degree graduates can transfer to a four-year institution at
a junior level.
