The Avon Park Chamber of Commerce, governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership and operated by a paid professional staff, offers a wide range of assistance and services to area visitors, residents and businesses. The Chamber answers thousands of requests each year by phone, mail, and walk-in visitors. The first inquiry of the day may be someone asking directions to a street or business; the next could be a business wishing to relocate to the area, or needing demographic information. A progressive Chamber must act as the "Front Door to the Community" and be ready to assist with each request promptly and efficiently. The Avon Park Chamber strives to answer each request in this manner.

The more than 300 member businesses of the Avon Park Chamber of Commerce represent many aspects of the business world. From local retail trade to manufacturing and international exporting. For the resident, the Chamber of Commerce is a reliable source of community information, and a dependable resource for business referrals. The City of Avon Park, founded in 1886, is known as "The City of Charm," "The City of Champions", and "Home of the Mile Long Mall" where the center of our Downtown Business District is located. Avon Park is home for 20,000 residents that enjoy the many employment and recreational opportunities in our community.

The City of Avon Park operates under a city manager form of government who operates under the direction of an elected four-member council and mayor. In addition to excellent police and fire departments the city also provides water and sewer service to its residents.

Avon Park is a family town with family values where our youth are considered our most important asset. These values are reflected in our schools, our youth sports activities, our churches, and most importantly our homes.

Danbury, Connecticut, native Oliver Martin Crosby first settled in the area in 1884 during his quest to study and write about swamps and their snake, alligator and mosquito companions. Other Americans searching for a quiet retreat quickly followed, and an English native suggested the town’s name involve "Avon" since it reminded her of Stratford-on-Avon in that country (the birthplace of William Shakespeare). Avon Park was incorporated as a town in 1913 and gained city status in 1925. In the past century, our city proudly has worn several labels: "The City of Champions," to honor the high school as the first in the state to win both baseball and football state championships in the same year, and "Home of the Mile-Long Mall," which refers to the strip of retail land between four traffic lanes on Main Street.

But the sweetest nickname that aptly sums up the entire Avon Park experience is "The City of Charm."

Avon Park enjoys a central Florida location, with U.S. Highway 27 running north to south like a red carpet through the heart of the downtown district. (U.S. 27 continues northward to Canada, providing excellent connections with not only the South and Midwest regions, but international destinations as well.) State Highway 25 and County Route 17A provide competent transportation routes for east-west and additional traffic patterns. Altogether, we maintain 75 paved street miles to cover a 4.4 square mile landmass.

Avon Park boasts a 640-acre field municipal airport to accommodate private planes. The private flight instruction on site appeals to business owners and weekend travelers.
