Receiving top-rate education at all levels is a significant priority among residents of Brevard County.
Through the region’s excellent public education system, a number of private institutions and several facilities of higher learning, students become well-rounded individuals ready to take on the business world that lies ahead.
Enrolling over 75,000 students along the Space Coast, Brevard County public school system hails as the 47th largest public school system in the nation. Over 50 elementary schools, which include two year-round elementary schools, 16 middle schools and 15 high schools, serve students from as far south as Micco and as far north as Scottsmoor.
In addition, three alternative learning facilities in Rockledge, Mims and Melbourne, as well as four public adult education centers located in Rockledge, Titusville and Melbourne, are also available to students of all ages in Brevard County.
For an alternative to public education, Brevard County also encompasses numerous private education institutions, including several charter schools, parochial institutions and a renowned magnet school.
Students looking to continue their education past high school are afforded a handful of acclaimed colleges and universities within Brevard County.
Brevard Community College, with campuses in Cocoa, Melbourne, Titusville, Palm Bay and the Spaceport Center, is a two-year community college serving well over 20,000 students. Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees are available at BCC, along with vocational education programs, adult education courses, continuing education courses and online classes.
One of 11 public schools in the state, the four-year institution of the University of Central Florida offers 24 bachelor degree programs, 19 minors and 13 graduate programs. Regional campuses in Brevard are located in Cocoa, Melbourne and Palm Bay.
Positioned in Melbourne, the Florida Institute of Technology sits upon 130 acres and stands as the only independent, technological university in the southeastern part of the country. Providing undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral degrees, the institute has earned recognition among America’s Best Colleges in the U.S. by News & World Report and was named as one of the top 14 technology institutes in engineering in the Fiske Guide to Colleges.
Further higher learning institutions include Barry University’s School of Adult and Continuing Education facilities in Melbourne, Merritt Island and Palm Bay, Florida Metropolitan University center in Melbourne, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Space Coast campus, and Webster University – Space Coast campus sites in Merritt Island, Palm Bay, Melbourne and the Patrick Air Force Base.
Nearly 20 comprehensive libraries span the Space Coast, offering hundreds of thousands of educational resources. Each library’s walls are lined with books, magazines, journals and periodicals, plus computers equipped with Internet capabilities.
