Originally named Cape of Currents in 1513 by Ponce de Leon, Cape Canaveral is home to nearly 11,000 residents.
The east coast city sits between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River, and it is adjacent to the Kennedy Space Center on its north side. Cape Canaveral is the site of the second largest cruise-passenger port in the country, Port Canaveral.
Recreation abounds in Cape Canaveral, from beaches, bike paths and tennis at the Cape Canaveral Tennis facility to camping and fishing. Residents and visitors can access boat ramps in the area, as well as three marinas – Scorpion’s New Port Marina, Sunrise Marina and Cape Marina, the site of the Space Coast River Tours, a three-hour tour along the Banana River to Sykes Creek. Cape Canaveral’s ideal location, with magnificent scenery on both sides, puts it within easy reach of the Space Coast’s biggest attractions.
