George Sebring was a devout Christian who believed no community could thrive without a spiritual foundation. When he created the town, he donated a great deal of property to congregations establishing churches, including a Jewish Synagogue.
There are 130 houses of worship in Highlands County, because of George Sebring, more than half are in the greater Sebring area.
Many of the churches do more than offer Sunday services. For example, Sebring congregations have sent emergency teams out of state to help tornado or hurricane victims and provide many essential services within the community for young and old alike.
Service schedules are published weekly in the two local newspapers, News-Sun and Highlands Today.
