Once traveled by prehistoric peoples, Native Americans, pirates and explorers, the area and its communities have a rich history.
Evidence that the land was home to some of Earth’s earliest inhabitants was found approximately 20 years ago when a prehistoric animal graveyard (containing the fossils of giant bird-like creatures, nine-foot-long beavers and mastodons) was discovered.
The area is also known to have been the home of a tribe that eventually settled on the Tampa Bay shores. Bands of outlaws combed the area for treasures, while the explorers Fernando de Soto and Ponce de Leon sought new territory for the Spanish in the vicinity of Sun City Center.

While the population around Tampa Bay was growing after the Civil War, the area around Sun City Center remained sparsely populated until well into the 20th century.
It was in the early 1960s, when this beautiful pastoral area was devoted to farming and cattle ranches, that developer Del E. Webb had a vision. He envisioned a place where people could settle down to enjoy a new phase of their lives. That dream became a reality, and today this area — now known as Sun City Center — has more than 16,500 residents who enjoy an active lifestyle and an extraordinary quality of life.
Residents in this area can choose from a variety of housing options that include single-family homes, condominiums, villas and rental units — as well as assisted-living facilities that provide quality care. An address in Sun City Center brings an abundance of opportunities for leading active lives.
