Whether you travel across town or jet to the other side of the world, Sun City Center’s ideal location and numerous transportation choices make traveling easy and convenient.
Situated along the western edge of South Central Florida, Sun City Center is within a half hour’s drive of Tampa, a quick 20-minute commute to Apollo Beach and less than 40 miles from Sarasota and St. Petersburg.
The community’s accessibility to major roads - including U.S. 301, Interstate 75, State Roads 674 and 60, U.S. 41, I-275, I-4 and the Selmon Expressway - helps to make traveling quick and convenient for motorists.
Something that sets Sun City Center apart from its neighbors is the use of golf cars. Golf cars are, for some, the preferred mode of transportation and almost match the number of automobiles in Sun City Center. For this reason, the County Sheriff’s office, with assistance from the Sun City Center Community Association, does a voluntary annual safety inspection of golf cars to ensure that the brakes, lights, horns, tires and other components are in good working condition.
Public transportation is available through the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HARTline), which offers affordable, convenient local and express bus service throughout the region. One of the newest routes (Rte. 84) serves residents of Sun City Center, Ruskin and Wimauma. Route 31 makes stops throughout the southern portion of the county, including Ruskin, before reaching its final downtown Tampa destination. HARTline also offers charter services, special events transportation, and streetcar tours. Passes with unlimited travel opportunities are also available. In addition, there are many discount programs offered for seniors, disabled passengers and those who rely on Medicare.
Kings Point residents have access to trams and buses, providing convenient transportation for in and out-of-town shopping, local amenities and attractions. The Sun City Center’s Mini Bus Club also provides exciting travel opportunities.
For those who need to travel by air, the Tampa International Airport, the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport, and the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport are nearby. The airports provide convenient daily flights to destinations across the world. There are also a number of private fields in the area, including Wimauma Airpark, Vandenburg, Peter O. Knight and the Tampa North Aero Park. These airports handle corporate, charter and private aircraft flights.
Other forms of ground transportation include Amtrak passenger rail service, Greyhound Bus Lines and numerous limousine and taxi cab companies.
