West Orange County is rich in resources for those who prefer life outdoors, on foot, on cleats, on tires, on horseback, or on water. Bikes, blades and joggers can trace the West Orange Trail. Over 60,000 people each month enjoy the sights and sounds of the 22 miles of trail. Golfers can putt their way around more than 20 public and private golf courses in the West Orange area, some of which are nationally recognized and award winning.

The Parks and Recreation Departments of Ocoee, Orlando, Winter Garden and Orange County, along with the Roper YMCA, offer a variety of activities for youth and adults.

The Orange County Parks and Recreation Department has several programs that will entertain, as well as teach children a sport or a skill. Children can learn to fish, golf, play table tennis or tennis, karate and swim. There are also events for the rest of the family, such as Storybook Fun from the Orange County Library System’s Storytellers.

The city of Ocoee hosts events such as adult and youth basketball leagues at the Beech Recreation Center, as well as activities such as Jazzercise, painting and seniors activities at the Community Center. The Roper YMCA Family Center is the home of a state-of-the-art wellness center located right in Winter Garden. The facility offers activities that appeal to both youths and adults to fit any schedule, especially with their extended hours and free child watch program.

West Orange County is located only 15 minutes from Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and other attractions located on International Drive. Visit Downtown Disney to shop or to see a concert at the House of Blues and stay to see the Cirque Du Soleil and experience La Nouba, which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. A visit to Universal Orlando will allow you to visit Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, as well as make a stop to enjoy some food and music at CityWalk.

If rest and relaxation are what you require, choose the Butler Chain of Lakes in Windermere. The Butler Chain of Lakes is home to many celebrities in addition to the Osprey. The lakes offer an excellent place to bird-watch and passersby have a great view of the Osprey nests that speckle the trees lining the banks of the lakes.

The character of a community is often dictated by the interest of its residents. The spirit of volunteerism is very strong in West Orange County. Residents make the most of their spare time by joining West Orange’s many civic and social organizations—which make this community a healthier and better place to live.

Nature lovers and athletic competitors can enjoy a plentiful selection of leisure activities complemented by friendly people and beautiful weather. Take a stroll down the boardwalk at Oakland Nature Preserve and listen to the sounds of the wildlife indigenous to the preserve.
