Harris County is clearly a county “on the grow.” During the 1970s, it experienced a 34 percent growth rate with a more modest increase during the 1980s. The 1990s brought a 33.2 percent growth rate with a 2000 census report of 23,695 citizens. Incorporated areas and their 2000 statistics are: Pine Mountain, 1,141; Waverly Hall, 709; Shiloh, 423; West Point (that portion lying in Harris County), 708 and Hamilton, 307. The communities of Fortson and Cataula, and Ellerslie in the southern portion of the county, are experiencing rapid growth.
