Business
Harris County residents cherish their rural lifestyle and scenic vistas, but the county also hosts a variety of small businesses, which provide significant employment and
services to area citizens. Its largest employers are Callaway Gardens, a 13,000-acre resort and gardens, and Cagle’s Poultry. Agri-businesses such as forestry, beef cattle, nursery/greenhouses and horse farms also contribute to the economy. And, a new KIA automobile plant, which is to be located in adjacent Troup County, will be a boon to the area. Tourism is the largest industry in the county, and 1998 state figures reflect that the county brought in $164.71 million in tourism expenditures.
